What Actually Is A Smart Thermostat?

As promised on our website, all of our new boiler installations come with a digital thermostat fitted as standard.

This means that if you really want to take control of your energy consumption and have a smart thermostat installed, so you can save even more money on your energy bills, it’s really easy to do.

But what actually is a smart thermostat?

A Smart Thermostat is Smart Home Technology, like ‘Hive’, which utilises Smart Technology to allow the homeowner to remotely access and control their central heating and water via other smart devices.

There is a range of smart options available, offering different levels of automation and accessibility but all work through WiFi, connecting your boiler, the main thermostat control and an app downloaded to your smart device, like a smartphone.

The more sophisticated the control, the more control options are available and some even use artificial intelligence (AI) to learn the homeowner's preferences, automatically sensing routines and preferred settings.

Some of this technology might sound futuristic and unnecessary but it’s already in many people’s homes in the form of ‘Alexa’ and devices like smart plugs, which allow a whole range of electrical appliances to be turned on and off, either automatically, on preset programs, or via voice control from the homeowner.

This technology has improved hugely in recent years, making it not only available but also very affordable, bringing smart devices within reach of most households, making the home environment much more convenient and easy to manage.

The ease and convenience of using smart technology can’t be underestimated and at some level, you’re probably already experiencing it but it really is only a matter of time before literally everyone is benefitting from its use.
